I'm at the post production point on one of my short films. I'm sure this question has been asked so many times but I need it in order to make my footage look as non digital as possible.
So far when I play back the footage with special effects, everything just looks that little bit extra fake when the digital footage looks so smooth, Now I need to drop the frame rate in order to pull everything together making it all look more believable. I've got a fast Mac at my disposal, Adobe Premiere, after effects and Final cut Pro. I want the frame rate lower, give that saving private ryan kinda feel. I've tried just dropping the frame rate of the final edit but the final result just ends up jumping randomly, skipping the frames I've dropped (if that makes sense). Are there any filters I can add to get a lower constant frame rate, giving it a more film like saving private ryan motion ? Or is it something deadly simple that I've overlooked ?
Any help would be.... well, a great help.

Dont worry too much about changing frame rate or interlacing, just use a 'film look' filter to add a bit of wobble and a little dust and grain.

shoot 'progressive scan' mode on your cam next time, that way you get an absolute 25fps (PAL) and no interlace artefacting to worry about.

okay, one last question to you guys which would be a giant help, I mainly use a friends camera to take my footage on, the camera is a Canon XM1.
does anyone know if this camera has a switch for progressive scan ? apparently it doesn't seem to have the feature, the closest thing it has is a switch between Movie mode (standard digital with interlacing) and Frame mode.
any help would be great

i do belive that the movie mode on the XM1 is fake 24P (24 frames per second progressive scan)
i say "fake" because you cant actually record 24fps on a PAL DV camera
p.s. somebody said use a filter in post, a general rule of thumb i go by is to do as much as i can to the image before it hits the CCD to make it look more filmic (well thats for your next film anyway)
